Koroni islocated 52 km. South of Kalamata and has approximately 1700 inhabitants. It is one of the most picturesque towns of Messinia, with clean sandy beaches and natural beauties. It has a post office, port authority, police station, banks ,medical office, bookstore, food markets, traditional and modern cafés, seafood tavernas, restaurants, bar and clubs most of which are housed in renovated listed old mansions along the coastal road leading to the picturesque dock, a safe shelter for vessels and yachts.Built amphitheatrically, it resembles the Cycladic scenery with its white steps and narrow streets full of colorful flowers. The castle dominates reminding its history.
It was built on the ruins of the ancient acropolis around the 13th century by Venetians, who held Koroni until 1500 A.D. making it a great commercial center. It was then conquered by the Turks until 1828, when it was liberated by French troops and was granted to the free Greek state. The huge gothic gate and its view are remarkable.
